Sometimes I'll just sit in the car and let my mind go away for a while
Wherever it wants for however long
Until it's time to call it back from distraction, the faces from the past
The last interactions, raindrops on the window slip and fall backwards
Racing in reverse, remember those last words
"Oh my oh my did I lose track of the time again?"

Sometimes I'll just lie awake and let my eyes lose focus in the darkness
So they don't know if they're open or closed
Until the tiny variations and shades in the shadows make shapes that can fool my mind into thinking that I'm still awake
But I see the silhouettes of a strange landscape and the red sunrise of a time and space I'm a stranger to.

Sometimes I'll just stare into the eyes of the person across from me
Whoever it is, for as long as they'll allow.
Until the moment freezes and they open up the dusty covers of their constructed autobiographies, unaware the observer sees
The secret pains and pleasures of an animal intelligent to know they're alone on a big blue ball
And all they can say is:

"Sometimes I don't know what to say in the moment,
And it feels like I'm on the spot, a lot.
Like maybe something that's supposed to be expected
I feel weird and disconnected from what's socially accepted.
I'm like a fraud, my face is a facade
You know, sometimes I wish I still believed in God"

Sometimes I'll just sit in the car and let my mind go away for a while.
